How much does a website cost in Malta in 2026?

Real 2026 prices for a business website in Malta: DIY builders, template shops, small studios, established agencies and custom builds, the running costs nobody mentions, and what we charge.

A business website in Malta costs between €350 and €20,000 in 2026, and most small businesses should spend €500 to €2,500. The spread is that wide because “website” means five different things. This guide sets out what each price actually buys, what it costs to run afterwards, and where quotes go wrong. The prices are ours and the public prices of other Malta providers as of September 2026.

The short answer

What you are buying Typical Malta price, 2026 Who it suits
DIY builder (Wix, Squarespace, Shopify) €0 to build, €15 to €40 a month forever You have the time, the taste and no need to rank on Google
Template shop (pre-built themes, 48 hours to 7 days) €350 to €1,000 one-off, often plus hosting at €30 a month A first site, fast, for a café, salon or trade
Small studio, custom design and copy €500 to €2,500 one-off Most Malta SMEs: a real site, written for you, fast, on your own domain
Established agency, custom multi-page €3,000 to €8,000 Companies with a brand to protect and several stakeholders
Custom platform, e-commerce, portals €5,000 to €20,000 and up Shops with stock, booking engines, member areas, marketplaces

Two Malta price points to anchor on: template shops currently advertise three tiers from about €350 to €1,000, and established agencies describe a custom small-business site at €3,000 to €8,000. Our own range sits between them: €500 for a one-page Starter, €750 to €1,200 for a Business site, and €1,500 and up for Advanced builds.

What actually drives the price

Five things move a website quote, and they are rarely explained.

  1. Design: template or custom. A template is a theme with your logo dropped in. Custom means the layout is built around what you sell and who buys it. Custom costs more in hours, and it is the difference between a site that looks like every other café in Sliema and one that looks like yours.
  2. Copy: who writes the words. This is the biggest hidden cost in Malta quotes. Most assume you will supply the text. You will not, or not for months, and the site stalls. A quote that includes copywriting is worth more than one that does not, even at a higher price.
  3. Pages and features. A menu, a booking flow, a second language, a shop, a members’ area. Each is real work. A one-page site and a seven-page site are different products.
  4. Build quality. Speed on a phone, accessibility, structured data for Google, a clean sitemap. “SEO-ready” should mean these things, measured. Ask for a Lighthouse score.
  5. Who does the work. A freelancer has no overheads and no cover if they are ill. An agency has account managers and a rent bill. A small studio sits between the two, which is where we sit.

What €500 gets you in Malta, and what it does not

At €500 you should get a one-page site, custom-designed, with the copy written for you, on your own domain, live within a week. Ours includes a contact form, a WhatsApp path, hosting setup and one round of changes.

What it does not get you: several pages, a booking engine that runs through the site, a shop, or a second language. Those are Business or Advanced work.

A real example: Café Capitolino in Valletta had no website at all. One page with the menu, hours and location, a drone hero cut from 12 MB to 5.8 MB so it plays on mobile data, and perfect Lighthouse scores for accessibility, best practices and SEO. It costs about €10 a year to run.

The €750 to €2,500 range, where most businesses should land

This is a multi-page site: up to seven pages, custom design and copy, a blog or case-study section, lead forms that reach your inbox or CRM, and analytics that show what works. Restaurants with several outlets, professional firms, and any business that sells more than one thing belong here.

At the lower end you get the pages and the forms. At the upper end you get integrations: a booking system, a CRM, a newsletter, a members’ login. Ask what is included at each price rather than comparing totals.

When €3,000 and more is worth it

Three situations justify it: a brand with strict guidelines and several people who must approve the work; integrations with systems you already run, such as a property management system, a POS or an accounting package; and platforms that are products in themselves. Impjieg, a job marketplace with employer accounts and search, is that kind of build. So is any real online shop.

If a quote is above €3,000 and none of those three apply, ask what the money is buying.

The running costs nobody mentions

The build is one payment. These continue.

Cost Typical range in Malta Notes
Domain €12 to €20 a year for a .com; €30 to €100 a year for a .com.mt or .mt Register it in your own name
Hosting €0 to €30 a month A static site can run on a free tier; WordPress needs a paid host
Maintenance €0 to €300 a month Static sites need nothing; WordPress needs updates. Our plan is €150 a month
Business email €6 to €12 per user a month Google Workspace or Microsoft 365
Booking or menu software €0 to €200 a month Often the biggest line; a WhatsApp booking path costs nothing
Builder subscription (Wix and similar) €15 to €40 a month Only if you went DIY

A café on a €200-a-month booking system is spending €2,400 a year on software. A WhatsApp link and a simple form get most cafés 90% of the way there for nothing, which is why we ask what you actually need before we quote.

Six red flags in a Malta website quote

  • Copy not included. The site will stall waiting for text.
  • No mention of speed or mobile. Ask for the Lighthouse score of a site they built.
  • Monthly “rental” with no ownership. If you stop paying and lose the site, you never owned it.
  • A page builder with a long plugin list. Every plugin is an update, a cost and a way in for attackers.
  • No prices on their own site. If they will not publish prices, expect the quote to depend on how you dress.
  • Hosting you cannot leave. The domain and hosting should be in your name, or transferable on request.

How to choose, in three questions

  1. Can I see three live sites you built, on my phone, right now? Not mockups. Live addresses.
  2. What exactly is included at this price, and what would cost extra? Get it in writing.
  3. What happens if I want to leave? The right answer is that you take the domain, the site and the content with you.

What we charge and why

Our prices are on the pricing page: Starter at €500, Business at €750 to €1,200, Advanced from €1,500, and management at €150 a month. Every build includes custom design, copywriting, hosting setup and one round of consolidated feedback.

The reason we can publish prices is the process. We build a live demo within 72 hours, on a real address, with your branding and copy we wrote. You judge the real thing. If you love it, we launch it. If you do not, you pay nothing. Ask for the demo here.

FAQ

Questions this guide gets asked

Is a €500 website good enough for a small business in Malta?
For a café, salon, trade or single-location shop, yes, if it is custom-designed, written properly and fast. A one-page site that answers what you do, where you are, when you open and how to reach you covers most of what customers need. It stops being enough when you need several pages, bookings that run through the site, or a shop.
How long does a website take to build in Malta?
Template shops quote 48 hours to 7 days. Our Starter sites launch in about 5 days after a 72-hour demo; Business sites take 7 to 10 days. Established agencies typically quote 6 to 12 weeks, mostly because of approval rounds, not build time.
Do I need a .com.mt or .mt domain?
No. A .com works for Malta businesses and is cheaper. A .com.mt or .mt signals Malta and can be worth having if the name is available, at €30 to €100 a year depending on the registrar. What matters more is that the domain is registered in your own name.
Should I just use Wix or Squarespace?
If you have the time and the taste, a builder gets a site live for €15 to €40 a month. The trade-offs are speed, search performance, and the monthly fee that never ends. Most owners we meet started on a builder and stopped updating it after month two, which is worse than no site.
What does website maintenance cost in Malta?
Between nothing (a static site you never touch) and €150 to €300 a month for a plan with hosting, backups, monitoring and edits. Ours is €150 a month and includes unlimited small edits. WordPress sites need updates whether or not anyone is paying for them.
